Portugal is home to some of the world’s finest golf courses and clubs, offering a picturesque views and meticulously designed fairways. Those settling in the country on a Golden Visa or D7 will have no trouble finding a luxurious golfing experience.
As a guide to what you can expect, here are some of best golf clubs in Portugal:
Oitavos Dunes golf course at Cascais near Lisbon
Rated as the best golf course in Portugal and the 55thin the world, Oitavos Dunes provides premium golfing with an enticing membership offering unlimited play on its championship course, exclusive tee times, discounted rates for guests (perfect for entertaining clients and partners), and discounts on nearby hotels, restaurants, and spa services.
An individual membership is priced at €3,495, with a corporate membership which offers 36 complimentary rounds for corporation invitees and guests in addition to the regular membership benefits, priced at €4,930.
The course has hosted the Open de Portugal (Portuguese Open) on multiple occasions.
West Cliffs, Obidos Resort and golf course
Offering two courses in one membership, the West Cliffs and Praia D’el Rey golf courses are some of Portugal’s finest.
An 11-minute drive separates the two golf courses, both with sea views, offering a premium golf experience.
Memberships start at €1,515 for non-frequent players (less than 30 rounds a year), and €2,020 for unlimited play.
Those looking to play on just one of the two courses can pay reduced membership fees.
Dom Pedro, Vilamoura golf course
A premium membership at Dom Pedro gives you access to five of Portugal’s best golf courses, located in the Vilamoura region of the Algarve, a famous golf destination.
At €5,500 for an individual, or €8,800 for couples, you receive unlimited access to three of the courses as well as discounts on the remaining two (couples memberships receive unlimited access to all five courses), in addition to discounts on guests.
The Dom Pedro Victoria golf course was designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer.
These courses played host to the Portugal Masters from 2007-2022, until COVID-19 restrictions led to the suspension of the tournament.
Royal Obidos Spa & Golf Resort, Obidos
Designed by golfing legend Seve Ballesteros, members can enjoy an Atlantic Ocean view as they tee off on one of the best golf courses in Portugal. The golf course has hosted the Open de Portugal on multiple occasions, most recently in 2022.
The club’s premier membership is the Jack Nicklaus package, where members will need to pay a €25,000 + VAT title fee, in addition to €1,600 a year for access.
Included in the package is unlimited golf course access, discounts in the clubhouse bar/restaurant and across the club’s lessons and shop, in addition to heavy discounts for guests. Members can also add family members to their membership at a discounted yearly rate and no additional title fee.
Quinta do Lago Golf Club, Algarve
A popular golf trip and holiday resort location for famous stars and golf enthusiasts such as Alan Shearer and John Terry, Quinta do Lago is one of the most exclusive locations for golf in Portugal.
Membership fees as of 2020 were €28,080 for a 20-year title (€15,990 for associated members), and €3,583 a year with reduced yearly fees for additional family members.
Members can enjoy unlimited access to the North and South golf courses, extensive links to worldwide golf courses for free or discounted access, discounted guest fees, in addition to exclusive access to the clubhouse and other club amenities.
