Portugal’s Algarve Wins the World’s Leading Beach Destination Award for 2024

Portugal’s Algarve region has claimed the accolade of ‘World’s Leading Beach Destination for 2024’ at the World Travel Awards.

This confirms its position as a global hotspot for breathtaking coastlines and exceptional tourism experiences.

André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Bureau, commented on this recognition: “We have won Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 10 times, but to win the World’s Leading Beach Destination is another level altogether when you consider the number of countries that have great beaches.”

Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

Stretching across 200 kilometres of Portugal's southern and western coasts, the Algarve is home to over 100 stunning beaches.

The Algarve's dedication to maintaining high standards is evident in its 86 Blue Flag beaches, recognised for their water quality, cleanliness, safety, and comprehensive services.

Further emphasizing its sustainability, 13 of the Algarve’s beaches have earned the Zero Pollution status from ZERO - Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável.

It also leads in accessibility, with 47 beaches equipped for visitors with mobility challenges.

Quality of Life and Culture

The Algarve offers more than its stunning coastline. Known for its high quality of life, affordable cost of living, and vibrant luxury property market, it attracts both visitors and new residents.
