The D5 visa is a long-term student visa intended for foreign nationals who wish to pursue higher education in Portugal for a period exceeding 90 days. It falls under the D Schengen Visa category, authorising foreigners to reside in a Schengen country for more than 90 days and up to one year. Successful applicants are granted entry into Portugal, but they must apply for a Portuguese residence permit within three months of arrival, which is valid for one year.
With a D5 visa, you can stay in Portugal for up to one year and travel freely to other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You can also work part-time in Portugal (up to 20 hours per week) and apply for a Portuguese residence permit after three months of living in Portugal.
